This is in line with the plan of internet giant search engine to provide quick access to services and customers in Asia.
Google plans to build data centers in Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong and has acquired land in each country, the company said in a statement. It will be Google's first data center in the Asia-Pacific region.
After construction began, Google expects the data center to be operational within one to two years. "The number of users and internet usage growing faster in Asia than anywhere else in the world. We want to better serve them," said Taj Meadows, manager of communications policy in Asia.
Google currently owns and operates data centers in the U.S. and Europe, with 15 offices and thousands of employees across the Asia-Pacific region.
